seems like sponsors arent counting traffic?

Have any of you ever thought that your sponsor sites arent counting some of the traffic that you send them, i suspect they just let a percentage of it go.

Some sponsors count 1st page, some count 2nd page. Then there is bangbros, who I've yet to see anyone post what the hell they count

Not all traffic can be counted.
Some people have cookies disabled for example.

I can't speak for all sponsors but i have to say for the company i work for we keep a close eye on those stats and they need to be accurate. It helps us to see if there are any weaknesses in the chain from our promo content, to the tour to the join page. Those numbers also help affiliates to modify and fine tune the way they send their traffic to our sites and they need the same accuracy in order to make more money.

we don't lose any of the 'hits' we track and i suspect most other sponsors don't either.

Oh, I have no doubt that sponsors aren't losing any hits. The affiliates, on the other hand, well, that's another matter indeed.

Dont mean to be rude, but what would a sponsor say about the subject. Sorry, just looks more like a pitch.

Also curious, how would you know you did'nt lose a hit if it was lost in the first place? I don't think any one can say they never ever lose a hit, puters and scripts are not 100% perfect, nor is the net...

I didn't take this as rude at all Ronnie, legitimate opinion.

Its not a pitch although it could be construed as one. The fact is I have worked for 3 different sponsor programs, one counted only second page hits and I told the powers that be that effectively made the stats worthless IMO, and the other two counted first page uniques.

It doesn't serve any purpose at all in my view to try and fudge the numbers you show to affiliates, the one thing they will definitely see for certain is how much money they make regardless. Showing them accurate hits allows them to adjust and helps us to fine tune. To me it sounds like obviously a good business practice.


as far as the no one can say they never lose a hit... you're right, but I think the implication of the thread was that perhaps the sponsors in question were doing this intentionally. But I may have misunderstood that.

I have problems with Bangbros at the moment. I know for a fact none of the places I list galleries has gone down when it comes to traffic (worldsex being the biggest source). Yet they only count 50% of what I normally send them and the ratio is even worse.

50% is a lot of traffic not to count.

Any program I was ever part of never miscounted hits on purpose. And Sparky can back me up on this to a degree. But sometimes, shit does happen. To out and out discount hits today would be much too transparent to the webmasters for any program to try. If you are counting your outgoing traffic, which you should be...there are a lot of factors between your script and the sponsors where some traffic could get lost. Remember, the path between a banner on your domain and a script on your domain is just a tiny jump. But then comes the many jumps from your script on your domain to a script on another domain. And sometimes, the script that is counting your traffic on the sponsors domain might not be working for a short time due to, well..shit happens. But still, the tracking of signups will still be working. Unless you are being paid on hits sent, I really wouldn't worry about it too much. But, that's just my opinion.

cool thats good to hear from people who know what they are talking about. I am just new to most of this, and cant help thinking the world is out to screw me, not that i really think like that, i just like to be cautious and approach things carefully if you get what i mean

That's where I have to disagree, especially if you're basing your ads on ratio's & per-click totals.

Showing only 2nd page hits or "loosing" hits will obviously make the webmaster think the program's sites are converting better than they really are.

Having extended my reach into many "mainstream" niches it's truly disheartening to see how many of these programs are so full of traffic leaks that comprehensive hit-tracking is rendered impossible.

The adult industry is probably the most tightly knit in this respect.

But it's far from perfect.

is there a way that my scripts or anything could be interfering with the sponsor counting stats? im running cjoverkill, and joomla.

I just think that i should be getting more because my stats havent changed much at all in the last week, i mean pretty much dead stop and i get around 2-3k a day with thousands of clicks im at a 120-150 prod right now. I mean i should at least see them move every day at the least right?
