This is somewhat related but could anyone tell me how to avoid a page to appear in search engine results?
I thought it was the NOARCHIVE tag (<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOARCHIVE"> ) but on google help it says: This tag only removes the "Cached" link for the page. Google will continue to index the page and display a snippet. |

You can also add entries to your robots.txt file, disallow search engines from putting whole directory structures in the results.
As far as SEO, http://seomoz.org is a nice start.
