Who read the new Flashcash Newsletter??
Did you catch the mathematical error?
I did. ![]() I emailed them to correct them. Perhaps I will get a mention. <on pins and needles.> |

heh.
I was always better at english than math. ![]() But I'm stoked you read it! (I assume you meant the leap year joke? What is the CORRECT number of years?) "Well, as we approach the end of Febuary, I can't help but ponder the concept of a leap year. Do you realize that if a girl was born on feb 29, she would be 72 years old by the time she had her 18th birthday. She could be featured on teenteenteen.com AND grannyfucking.com at the SAME TIME!" |

You got it. The actual answer is 4 and 1/2.
Divide by 4. Not multiply by 4. |

Wait...by the time she had 18 bithdays, how many years would she have been on the earth?
She gets 4 years older every time she has a birthday. I think we may need to call someone in the math department to settle this. ![]() |

If a person is born on Feb. 29th, he/she would only have an actual birthday every 4 years. (Since this date only happens once evey 4 years.)
So after 18 years she would have only have had 4 actual dates of her birth pass by and be 1/2 way to the fifth. (2 years away.) Born Feb 29th. 2004 Feb 29th 2008 she would be 1 Feb 29th 2012 she would be 2 Feb 29th 2016 she would be 3 Feb 29th 2020 she would be 4 Feb 29th 2022 she would not even have a birthday since there is no Feb 29th in 2022. Feb. 29th would not happen again for another 2 years in 2024, when she would be 5. The email said: "by the time she HAD her 18th birthday", not "by the time she WAS 18". ![]() I'm right. Although now that I re-read this, the way it is phrased, I guess you are correct to.
I was thinking you meant that by the time she had her normal 18th b-day, not her Leap year 18th birthday. Damn, I thought I was on to something... Green Guy please delete this thread so I don't look so foolish. ![]() Do I win anything anyway? Last edited by Dr Bizzaro; 2004-02-29 at 02:07 PM.. |
