Free site Converstion rates

Whats a realisitic conversion rate to shoot for if your new and if you've been doing this for a month or two? I'm just trying to get a rough estimate on what a free site submiter should be looking for in a sponsers as far as conversion rates go, and though GGandJ's stats are a bit old, i also know that there listings are a bit differnt which i'm sure has to effect the traffic, so i wasn't really sure if those where reliable.

Thanks in advance

I'll start off by saying that yes, I do need to do a new stats run (but I might hold off until March 31st so that I can get onto a 3 month rotation that starts & ends with each year) And I will say that yes, my stats are based on different traffic because most come form links off LOR & not form free sites or other things (but those totals are included in there)

As fas as the conversion rate, I'd say that for a PPS program, 1:500-1000 is normal (3-6 cents/click based on a $30 sale)

...but you really need to have 5000 or so hits to the program before you can get a decent sample & this is assuming that the program counts 1st page hits.

Thanks a ton for the quick reply. The only thing i was able to find on this was a old tutorial that was indicating around 1:150. By looking at your stats they defently showed that the number couldn't be right. Thanks alot for sharing your stats, and i defently look foward to the update.

Is RevShare a differnt converstion rate usually?

1:150 is a FANTASTIC ratio & if you can convert across the board at that rate, you'll be a rich man in no time

The rates are all different & PPS/Revshare don't really play into it because the surfer has no idea what that means. The surfer sees either a free or cheap trial or they see a monthly membership with no trial option. It's easier to convince a surfer to take a 3 day trial for $4 than it is to convince them to shell out $30 for a month right off the bat, so conversion rations for those tend to be a bit higher.

(I only threw the PPS thing in there so that I could give a "money per click" example)

As Greenguy said, 1:150 is FANTASTIC...even if that is achieved, its a different story to maintain that. I'd also agree 1:500 to 1:1000 is average for most.

The thing is too...where one sponsor works well for one webmaster, it can do horrible for another so it really depends on your type of traffic. Likewise, a webmaster could have HUGE traffic but make nothing where another could have low traffic and make good money....confusing hey

Best thing to do is try out various sponsors and give it some time like 6 months and see how it does and then begin to weed out the ones that do poorly.

One thing I do is focus on the low cost trials on sites as GG said it's easier to convince a surfer to opt in rather than $30 straight up front. Another idea is to start off with Per-Signup options so that even with trials you get a lump sum...if you see lots of signups, switch it up with the Percentage option and see how it does....I usually do a mix of % and per-signups.

Overtime you will get abetter picture of how your converstion ratios will work and with what sponsors.

I've just started building freesites but am at about 1:700 right now. Going by my very limited stats thus far, the best advice I can give you is choose which sites to promote wisely. Find sites that cater well to the niche that they are supposed to be about and your ratios will be a lot better.
