Webhosting? Who do you use, and...

..and what do you get for your money?

I'm in need of a new webhost - (sigh)
and I'm hoping to find the most reliable/popular one that most of you guys use.

Right now I'm with Lunar Pages, but they're just not cutting it. I only pay $59 a year and I get 200mb space 40gb month bandwidth(not enough)

I really just need more bandwidth - disc space is not really an issue.

It's killing me because I'm so spoiled with just paying $59 a year - LOL!

I already talked about it with Lunar Pages about upgrading, but it seems none of their "packages" have enough bandwidth and they charge an additional $3.95 per gig.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,
While I can't compete with the $59.00 per year you are paying with Lunar Pages, I can certainly get you set up with solid hosting that will allot for the bandwith you need. Powerstorm Web Hosting offers a couple of hosting packages you may be interested in. The first that I would suggest would be the Gold Package:
High Performance Dual Xeons
$14.95
Storage: 1 GB
Transfer: 50GB
SSH Access: Unlimited
Mail Lists: Unlimited
MySQL Databases: 10
Host Domains: 10
Transfer Overage: $1.00/GB
(If more bandwidth is required let me know and I can work some thing out for you regarding additional bandwidth.)
The other package is our Platinum package. This is easily our most popular package:
High Performance Dual Xeons
$19.95
Storage: 1.5 GB
Transfer: 75GB
SSH Access: Unlimited
Mail Lists: Unlimited
MySQL Databases: Unlimited
Host Domains: Unlimited
Transfer Overage: $.75/GB

We would be happy to help transfer any sites that you need moved. We offer top notch customer service and support via email, ICQ, IRC and if needed phone support. Last year we were nominated for an Xbiz award by our users. If you have any questions at all feel free to contact me via ICQ: 33163380

Unhappy

Thanks for all this great info!

I'm still haggling with Lunar Pages about an upgrade of some sort - lol!

So far they're offering me:

PHP, JSP*, ASP*, & PERL
4000 Megabytes Storage - I only need about 1,000 - but why not.
80 Gigabytes Data Transfer
Priority Toll-free Telephone Support
Shopping Cart - not needed by me
Multiple FTP accounts - not needed by me
Fantastico Script Library
Microsoft FrontPage™ - not needed by me

$22.95 per month, but I'm waiting to see what it will cost with the 3 extra domains I have in my account.

My main problem is that the amount of money I'm making doesn't justify spending a whole lot for hosting. I wish I was doing better, but that's reality for now - lol! So as soon as I figure out everything I'm doing wrong and start making money at this, I can think about spending more for hosting.

I'd recommend Webair as someone mentioned earlier. The Virtual Basic package is a better deal than Lunar Pages-- It offers more transfer and a lesser price.

Their support is very helpful, and their Live Support gets things done when you want support asap.

Bill, those items you marked as "not needed" are pretty much free stuff that webhosts include as standard and taking them out would mean absolutely nothing for the overall cost of running the server. There are plenty of good webhosting companies on this board that will set you up on a virtual account and offer you exactly what you need, just make sure they are flexible and that you know things like overage costs, etc.

cheers,
Luke
(yup thats right, no sales pitch!)

Well, I'm not using a referral code here...I'm kinda old school when I recommend a place its because I like them, not because I'm getting paid to like them, lol.

I got a backup virtual host account with Dreamhost last month because my main hosting was flakey at times and I just wanted a good backup host to have so I don't lose any days with submitting galleries. So far Dreamhost has been just that and very reliable, very professional and their name suits them.

They're currently running some great packages...I got the code monster package:

$20 a month if you pay for the year
7600 disk storage (they have a limited triple offer triple disk and bandwidth).
192 gig a month
15 domains
75 subdomains
and bandwidth overages is only $.50 a gig.

What turned out to be my backup host has ended up way better than my first host which I'm getting rid of and probably upgrading with dreamhost to a dedicated.

I'd recommend WEBAIR for $9.95 monthly you can get 50 gb of transfer which should be more than enough if you're starting.

They have good support...

Bandwidth is the size of the pipe, transfer is what you shove down it.
