Paysite check list

I've been a full time affiliate webmaster almost four years. With the new 2257 regs it's time for me to start my own paysites. Does anyone know of a check list that would make it easier to get going, or just some good resources for paysite owners? Thanks.

Depends if you plan to go with promoting it on your own, or if you plan on having affiliates, there's a big swing in the info you would need there.

I see more paysites closing than affiliates giving up. Why would you want to start your own sites now with 2257 going the way it is... this means it will be even harder now.
GG&J is a good resource for paysite owners... as far as a checklist goes I think I've seen one somewhere - but would you believe that it was the right way to go. If you have been promoting sites for the last 4 years then you should know what sells for you and what doesnt. Make that your starting point. Research reseach research. Once you know the type of site you want you will need to buy the content or shoot it yourself and then find a good designer, or do it yourself. Then you may want to review your current hosting or hit up CD34 on this board. I hear his hosting kicks ass. You may want to consider a CMS for your members area, or do it by hand. Once you get all that in place you will need a processor, which may require you to register a US Corp or go "offshore". With all that ready now you can think about getting affiliates. If you use CCBill for example, you can simply enable that in your admin and or get your rep to help you out... thats pretty much it. I may have missed a few items but this is just to give you a rough idea... if you choose to do it.. good luck!

Thanks Terry and John for the info.

Terry, why would it be harder to have a paysite now if I had all the proper ID's and such?
Why are those paysites closing? Is it because of 2257 or some other reason?

If I'm going to have work out of an office to keep documents, I my as well be storing my own for my own paysite.

I do plan on having affiliates and only give out hosted galleries and softcore banners.

Hi Vink

There is nothing more satisfying than sending those sales to your own sites instead of someone else's. Owning a paysite will also give you a different perspective on how to fine tune those marketing skills.
Good Luck!

Unless you are prepared to meet all the needs of what your potential affiliates will want and need in order to promote you, then you need to have a plan for your in-house traffic... which of course you are set there since you come from the affiliate side. That is a good start.

But from there, you need the content, and you need a good content management system, and you need to know the features and limitations in terms of implementation, day to day maintenance, and upgradability. We use Carma and like it but as with everything else out there there is a learning curve and a development curve that you will constantly be up against so you better make enough to afford that trek across treacherous terrain. 2257 is just one stumbling block in that path. The encoding, the security, the copyrights and marks, the hosting, the editing, all are boulders that must be constantly pushed up the hill.

Before you even think about content, think about what your competition is doing with content. If so many paysites come and go, why? Maybe... Too much of the same thing? Maybe... Not enough updates to satisfy ravenous customers? Maybe... Poor fiscal management and sloppy business practices? Any or all of those reasons and more are why others fail. If you are to succeed all of those hurdles must be navigated.

Go luck. Not easy but not impossible... if a bunch of misfits like us could figure it out there is hope for all of us.
