click through tracking

Can anyone recommend a good way to count/track click throughs to sponsors etc for freesites?
I believe you can use banner ad software but can these work with text links as well?
Also do any linkslists decline for using this kind off software?
Cheers for any help

I believe some people use phpadsnew php includes to track their ads and you can make it display text, images, whatever. If you don't use the javascript version i don't see a problem but some people may reject you if your ads change on page refresh. Another way is to just pull stats from your sponsors using Stats Remote or Unified Stats.

You can also write your own scripts, but I'd explore other methods before investing time on building stuff from scratch.
