Hey UW. I know what you mean. I have an account with AFF(what's a single webmaster that works 12-18 hour days to do LOL), and am constantly getting emails from people claiming to be a hot girl, then they send you to their page to get an adult check pass. I'd be willing to bet most of those pics being used in those "fake" profiles are being stolen. But, how would you prove that? And who would be responsible, AFF or the Adult Pass sponsor? I would think that would create some nice chargebacks, since they are tricking people into thinking they're gonna be talking to the girl they saw the pic of on AFF.

On another note, new rule added to TripleXworld.com. No more submissions will be accepted that promote AFF.

How could this guy get a new account without AFF knowing it's the same guy? I smell a rat.

Hello,

I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm from Adult AdWorld. We're an adult ad network that pays publishers on a CPM basis (per impression) rather than per signup. Simon from BDSMWorld alerted me that our company name was associated with a discussion here regarding opendirviewer. I want to thank Simon for taking time to explain some of the issues. He was extremely helpful. I also want to open some dialog about opendirviewer with this board, and would like to start with some questions.

Is it universally felt that all of opendirviewer's content misappropriated?

Is it opendirviewer doing the misappropriating or is it that they allow others to do so and do not police them?

How would you suggest a company like mine handle situations like this? (How should we investigate, and what proof is reasonable to make us sever ties)?

As Simon pointed out to me, there are standards of legality and then there are ethics. Those two don't always match so where do we draw the line?

That's enough for now. I hope you all take this in the spirit it is meant - to open a sincere dialog with this board to help my company make decisions that support and enhance the adult community. That's why we started a CPM instead of a CPA based network. We felt adult webmasters should have the same opportunities as mainstream webmasters.

I look forward to hearing from you.

As I see it opendirviewer is no different than fusker. They are republishing images from web pages they do not own, without consent, and are stealing bandwidth while doing so by hotlinking those images. The only case where it would not be "misappropriation" is when the owner of the web page submits the URL to opendirviewer. I'd guess that happens very rarely.

Investigation is pretty easy. Is content hotlinked from another web site? If yes, can the site owner provide written consent for each and every link? I think we both know the answer to that without asking.

Hiya

I'm glad you decided to come talk with the good folks on this board.

One thing I might suggest (unless the moderators have a way to do it here easily) would be to start your own thread about this. Being on page 4 of someone else's thread may get you less responses, or responses that aren't directly about your services.

I should mention here that Adult-AdWorld initiated contact with us regarding using their service, and their CEO has been very concerned to learn more about the problems that Fusker/opedirviewer cause for us once I brought up a few points with him.

I hope others will take a few minutes to contribute to this thread (or another one if there is a standalone thread started). It could be a good chance to get one of the thieving bastards' revenue streams chopped off -- the only real way to hurt them back.

And just as weak.

UW, I wanted to post an example of one of our hosted galleries on opendirviewer. We have our htaccess set up to serve a 'special' image to those kinds of sites too. But maybe they've finally gotten the message that we don't like them. When I try any of our gallery URLs there, all I get now is:

"The requested url cannot be viewed and is now deleted from our database."

And Fusker now says "NO RESULTS for (URL)"

I'm glad they're not hotlinking our images now, but as long as they're doing it to other people without their permission, they're still thieves as far as I'm concerned.

I clicked on a few of the galleries they have listed on their page and got that same response. I assume they have a blacklist of sorts for certain domains. A hotlinker that doesn't want any trouble? Who knows.

Maybe I'll fill up their database with my gallery URL just to get my name seen on my hotlinker gif.

wheat, the image problem is something that has been brought to AFF and other dating sites attention, but they are loath to deal with it. They seem to fail to understand how this could be viewed as misleading or deceptive advertising, as the claims for these girls being on their system is 100% and total false.

Regardless of being on the internet or in the real world, false or deceptive advertising can lead to action from various levels of government, including the FTC in the US.

That companies allow third parties to generate such misleading advertising and then pay them well for doing it... well... they are asking for trouble, IMHO.

Agreed. Which is why I won't promote them. According to AFF there are hundreds of playmate lookalikes in my small ass hick town. Although I have yet to see a single one.

This is what AFF will be doing when the FTC is informed of its dubious actions

False advertising at its finest.

I won't personally piss on the parade, and I suspect they have done the same math that many companies do:

Make 50 million running the site, admit no wrongdoing but agree to pay resitution and a fine to total 5 million, and move on with your 45 millions and enjoy life, potentially starting another variation on the theme.

Sounds like he needs to change his motto from bow to the power to... beware the thief. Hes one of my favorite Zoo animals of all time. He made one of those "big dick'n" videos to show off his new ride. Further investigation of the video reveals that in his zeal to prove to the world the strength of his "pimp hand" that he forgot to take off the temp rental car tags.

The AFF thread is so funny. I was having my accountant work on my taxes (he knows what I do for a living, obviously) and he asked me if I could help him meet a couple of girls he saw on AFF. He is nice looking, older, makes very very good money. He joined and wrote several ladies, no good response. I hated to tell him that the girls in the pics were not available locally.

If ya are with AFF I'll give ya a little hint, you use
Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas and that's FEDERAL land.
There's talk about probs over Porn Sites advertising Federal
Property in their ads in the local papers for a few months..
You should use Hot Springs, Arkansas and knock off the
National Park bit..
