What do you mean, my birth certificate expired?

www
Got a question I got banned for not using www. in my URL submit by a LL. I know I should have read the rules better. Yet I am not sure why thats a big deal. In fact the sponsors URL did not use the www either.
Just wondering. Thanks Mike ![]() |

Hi Mike. I hope that wasn't me that banned you but it may have been. I know with my link list's I've had that rule in place for some time. It goes back to about a year ago I think when I got slammed daily with 100's of bogus submits from cheating jerks. The one quick way to identify them (since they used different ips, emails, domains and submit names) was by the fact that they didn't include the "www" in their url's. I know I'm not the only one with this rule but I'm probably more of a stickler about it than most. This probably sounds weird to some but it helped me weed out the bad folks and ban them.

I've never used www in front of my domains.
My understanding is that it doesn't matter if you use it or not but it is important to always use one or the other as far as search engines go.. |

You can now put whatever you want in this space :)

I remember a thread here, some time ago, where it was discussed that the PR was different for a site with and without the www. I suspect that based on this that some webmasters decided it would be advantageous to insist on one or the other.

I have to admit, that is a very clever way to deal with that type of problem. Last edited by Useless; 2008-07-23 at 08:22 PM.. |

From what I have read - I think it is better to use one or the other becuase the search engines now see:
www.domain.com & domain.com as to seperate entities and therefore duplicate content. I don't think it matters which you use so long as your consistant with links, internal links, recips and so on |
