He's more unique with the long hair, but.. looks more vulnerable with the short hair. But, I am a cat person too, so what do I know about dogs? Just 'cause I got stuck with a dog doesn't mean I know anything about them..
Still, a cute dog no matter what.

I saw the dog in person and he is looking good. He probably was not well taken care of by his adopted father and got a lot of knots in his fur. The groomer probably had no choice but to give him a buzz cut.
