DVD Writers
I want to start burning/writing my own DVD's for sale at my sites. Can anyone tell me anything on this subject? I heard that the DVD writers you can buy make DVD's that play on most all players but maybe not on some. Will I have problems with returns? What burners are best? Anything else I may need to know before I drop a wad. Or should I have a profesional sevice make them for me? "I'd rather do it myself!"
Any help would be majorly appreciated! ![]()

I am not in any way an expert, but I just made my first DVD movie this week, I've had the DVD burner for 2 years and just been using it to store data, but this is a full blown movie, and I learned a few things to do different next time. But this is good to be a master for VHS which was my original intent.
I have a DVD + burner, the other kind is a DVD -. It took 11 hours and 45 mins from the time I started to render the video to the completion of the burn at 75% DVD quality. That does NOT include the time of burning to the hard drive, editing etc. Just the DVD process. The video in question is 1 hour and 13 mins in length, a DVD can hold 4.7 Gigs of information, and about 120 mins of video at a lower quality. I just saw in Best Buy a Dual +/- DVD Burner for $75 or so. I tested my DVD in 3 pcs and my RCA DVD player and it worked on all 4. As for returns I would stipulate they can exchange it for a VHS or credit if it doesn’t work. You never know what they have and until they all make the damn things the same way this will be an issue. $0.02 |

i know a little as i copy them for personal backups and i dont use software that does the whole process i bought the first sony burners out and pieced together the programs to copy one to dual layer dvd to a single dvd and i also authored a few dvds with chapters and BG music
Now on formats make sure your burner will burn + and - Rs now on dvd players some i have and people i know have, it depends on the player some will play a + r & - r and some will play only +r and vice versa, also i found that - Rs play a little better and most players play them also before i bought my players i went to video help and read what people tryed on the players on the market i never seen a player that they didnt have specs. on, also you can ask your customers what player they have and you can check what plays on it also i use pinnacle dvd studio and it is a lengthy process and it takes a while to learn http://www.videohelp.com/ Last edited by plateman; 2004-05-14 at 11:24 PM.. |
