I am a life-long cat person that tolerates larger dogs. Living alone in the country, my "brother" decided I HAD to have a dog. Yeah, right. Don't get me wrong, Dolly is a sweet female border collie/Australian shepherd mix that is great with everyone. She also barks at everything and is a confirmed escape artist with a death warrant on her head from the local dog catcher. She figured out how to open the latch on the gate and busts out every chance she gets. A year later, she and I kind of get along, but I am much closer to the three cats.

A smaller dog would have been cool. We have 3 chihuahua-pomeranian mixes at work that keep us company. Great with kids, and great intruder alarms. We all run around with gold fur on us. If you check with the local no-kill shelters, you may well find a slightly older dog - still a puppy - that desperately needs a real home. And.. mutts always seem to make better pets. Good luck with the hunt.. may you find the right fit for everyone!
