Most paysite tours suck on preselling. You send a surfer to a tour without building something up, the conversions are going to suck. Most sales come off the index because 100% of LL traffic and a large percentage of SE traffic land on the index first and trickle down from there to the gallery pages. The highest number of uniques on the index of course means highest no. of clickthrus from there - that doesn't mean those clicks are going to be productive, especially it comes from a boring 468x60 banner you slap on top of the page.

What does the title of a free site earn me? With H1/h2, it earns me traffic from Google and Yahoo, which converts at 1:50 instead of 1:200.

The bottom line: Using a banner above the title is personal preference; I personally think it's a newb tactic similar to linking to a thumb and forcing clickthrus that generates no sales. Besides, it looks like shit.
