I think they should also put money into a missle system which can blast asteroids which threaten Earth.

Coz one day there might be an asteroid headed towards Earth.

Not only does this pose a threat to humanity, even a glancing blow could tilt the Earth off it's axis, which would result in a change of the Earth's magnetic field.

And we all know what magnetic fields do to hard drives.
