That is very true about many of the turnkey sites out there. There are however some decent turnkey operation that do give you ownership of the site and nice conversion. The biggest problem a newbie will face with a turnkey site is the fact that they have a professional looking site but can't market it at all, given no web experience.

Start small and learn as you go, roll your profits back into the business, talk on webmaster boards, start to establish some relationships with people in the business
