LOL. Its a lot worse when the server is 1000 miles away. My host has virtual consoles that will let you control the server from the initial POST, but I can't afford it. On the other hand, you can't really have a server sitting live on the net with an outdated kernel just waiting to be hacked.

The first time I rebooted I had forgotten to set up the virtual NICs to come up after rebooting, and the only thing on the real cards IP address was the SSHD. It took me 20 minutes to figure out why I could SSH in but nothing else was answering even though all the services were up and the firewall was still set up right.
