Positioning once you're listed?

I was wondering about something.
I build the occasional free site in my spare time, and although Link-o-rama (for example) generally lists me, I don't get near the amount of traffic from them that I used to.

I got to wondering how many paid spots or personal spots are listed from the top down on a daily basis before the normal free listings are listed?

I build very clean sites too. One sponsor per site, big clear pictures, and very well laid out.

Presently I get my best results from Penisbot and Wet Place, who both give me tier values of 6 or 7. (for picture based free sites).

Thoughts?
