With Frances, we were without power for 6 days/phone for 5 days -- power was restored a scant 18 hours after I found a generator.
Ice Cubes are what I missed most. A/C is a close second, however, I found fans at Walmart for $19 each that were fantastic. Funny how we never had fans since our A/C always has worked. Friends of ours who sold their house on Thursday before Frances, were not able to close on their new house on Friday due to Frances (and later to Ivan being in the 'box') and were staying with us. Their theory was, if drunk drivers escape from car crashes relatively unscathed, then being drunk in a hurricane should virtually guarantee no injury. Neither was injured, so, the theory appears quite sound. That and their Hurricane Eye dance naked around the house which probably prevented damage to our house. In our neighborhood, we had people that had quite a bit of property damage. I lost my Orchid tree -- leaned at a 15 degree angle, broke the southern roots and was leaning worse every day -- and 2.5 roofing tiles. It actually broke a tile in half on the ridge. The glue bond does appear stronger than concrete -- always wondered about that. |
