I've never screwed on one of the newer waterbeds, but I recall that I hated the complete lack of foot hold there was on the old ones. Not to mention the fact that I could never get all of the air out, so you'd hear the bubbles moving around when you got any kind of momentum going. That's just plain distracting.

with the pillow top you can dig your toes in and drive her to the moon
The bed I have has individual tubes, makes getting rid of bubbles easy and stops most of the motion you get in the old single bladder beds.
My boats got to really be rockin to get any real sloshing around going on in the bed.
