Stupid 2257 Question

Maybe someone has asked this before, but why do people list 2257 information for cartoon and anime sites???

Hi Pusher,

Thats not a stupid question... someone asked me that the other day and I didn't know what to say.

So I looked at the 2257 site again and thought to myself.. after the pain in my head went away.. I put on my gallery submitter thinking hat. Toons are NOT real so 2257 links are not required on gallery submissions.

However, many TGP's require a 2257 link on ALL submissions in order for them to be accepted... so gallery submitters are simply putting links on all of their gallery templates from the start (saves time when submitting).

It's probably that the template they use already has it or it's just a habit.

I can only recall reading that 2257 was a requirement at one TGP that I have submitted to, but I'd be damned if I remember which one. Once one or two guys make a new rule everyone assumes that it is standard policy.

Carlaschoice asks for the URL of your 2257 on the submit form. There are others too but that is the only one that comes to mind right now.

Basically anyone using Comus Thumbs is asking for it, A couple of them have told me to just ignore it for now.

So to get into the habit, I have a link on all my galleries and I provide a link when asked.

(extrapost.com, hqgal.com, jesuslovesporn.net, etc etc)

Thats interesting - they must not know how to setup Comus - cause I run it on my TGPs and dont require it - as well as all of the other TGPs that run Comus that I submit to which is all of the top ones that I know of

More importantly - why even put it there? Its a waste of time and just one more reason that I can think of to decline someone for trying to link to something other than 2257 - already seen it happening and just getting to the point where if the link is there its an instant decline

I guess roughly ½ of all sites in my submit list either have it in their rules, or are running the (upgraded) Comus script with a field for it...
But then I submit to a lot of thumbnailed sites...

What is the purpose in asking for a 2257 link? Are you going to verify that the records are actually located at that address? I know some thumb sites are worried about having hardcore thumbs but what does a link on a surfers gallery have to do with you hosting the hardcore thumb?

Requiring 2257 is sort of a pointless idea. I can toss together a 2257 page in a second that won't be truthful, won't contain anything useful, and it will be as accepted as the truth.

Does it matter?

Google ain't going to stop listing my sites because I don't have 2257 on the galleries.

So, like, whatever.

Those that are requiring I think need to spend a few moments with a good lawyer. If anything else, they are creating potential responsibility and liability for themselves where none should exist.

Just to get back to the original question for a sec, its impossible to get ID from a cartoon as they do not exist in reality so 2257 laws cannot apply to them!

You can draw an ID right after you draw the cartoon. Then you have something to put under 2257
