Took the hint.

Bill, you totally miss the point: With 1:1 banner exchanges, any "credits" given outside of the standard 1:1 exchange will never go away... every new people will add 1000 or whatever extra in the bank, which will NEVER go down. 1000 people at 1000 credits means a bank of 1,000,000 credits that will never go down. They might get displayed (over time), but it means that a banner view today gives you credit for a banner view 1 million banners from now. If you ever close the system down, there will still be that many credits unused in the bank, because you have no way to deplete stock.
The more credits in the system, the more the people SHOWING banners lose out, because each new signup pushes them back in the list even further. The more people who join, the less likely your banners are to be shown. I looked at mastebanners - it looks like they are actually doing a form of 1:2 banner exchanges, because they put a "pre banner" up followed by the actual banner. So it isn't a true 1:1 exchange. The other ones appear to all have a "hook" that makes them somewhat less than 1:1. So what is your hook? I see no terms and conditions or anything, so I can find no clue as to how your system works. I think alex has this on the dot.
For people who barely show any banners, its not a bad deal I guess. you sign up and get 1000 free shows. Now imagine i can only show 5 banners a day. I get a fast influx of traffic for my site. The problem is for bigger producers, who can show the banner thousands of times. Raw Alex is right and for these people you'll quickly build up a suprplus across all accounts... possibly evenly distributed.... eventually all accounts will show credits they can never spend, with the exception of the 'biggest showers' who should and would have a massive backlog of shows not being used. |
