Important Flashcash Information
While working on the Sponsor Tryouts yesterday, I tried to use their gallery building tool. I had no problem downloading an empty template but...when I tried to download a Template with Content, nothing downloaded.
Mark Rhino and I tried a few things and figured out that it was my firewall stopping it. This is a beautiful tool but, if you are using a firewall, shut it off before downloaded their Template with Content. |

Cleo
If you Macafiles keep pushing Macs, someday someone is going to think it worthwhile to make a virus for them. You should treat owning a Mac like I treated basic training in the Army. When I graduated, the drill Sargent said, I don't even know who you are ![]() Because I know you are not trying to say that a Mac is virus proof, are you? |

Right now there are zero Mac OS X viruses, but since it is basically *nix I guess it has about the same chance as other flavors of *nix, not that there are many *nix viruses. Actually many more computers in the world run *nix then Windows so I'm not sure how valid of an argument that is.
Any virus would have to ask me my admin password in order to do anything bad. If I was really paranoid I could surf under a non admin account and then absolutely nothing could touch anything on my computer. We create non admin accounts on the Macs where freelances use them and they are stoned out freelancer proof, lol. |

Back in the old Mac Classic days there was about 50 or so virus over the 15 years it was out. System 9.2, which was the last of the classic systems, can't catch any of them. Theoretically you could make a cross platform Microsoft Office virus since Office can run cross platform Visual Basic macros, but this would only affect Word and Excel, I've never seen one or heard of one. The biggest problem with Windows is the way Outlook will run anything without any safeguards. |

My problem with OS X is that is is huge compared to the size of my hd, 6 gig and I am still using older programs which are not OS X ready. But when the printhouses I am working with have QuarkXPress 3.2 only, you need these. ![]() |

Toss Norton, Virex and TechTool, your system will run better and faster. There are no viruses for Mac OS 9 so why run them? Open your extension manager and turn them off, you don't actually have to remove them. One caveat, you will not be able to recover deleted items anymore so empty the trash with care.
Boot from a DiskWarrior CD and run it on your drive if you have problems. I've seen both Norton and TechTool trash drives that DiskWarrior fixed. |

This is why you can put water in pretty little bottles and sell something that also can be had for free, just like porn.

![]() I think if you want to take the time to setup your windows machine carefully and also be careful with what attachments you open you can get away without Norton et al same as a mac.. it just ends up being simpler to let norton worry about it for most people. (Norton, MS and other fat program makers are all part of a conspiracy to bog our pc's down so intel can keep flogging faster chips imho! ![]() |

I hate agreeing with Opti..
![]() but he is right.. good practice is the safest gaurd against this crap.. Norton sucks... I too have seen it trash more machines than its fixed. Resources wise its just not worth it.. Get rid of Outlook, and get a real email client Delete all attachments Turn off HTML/previewing etc One funny fuckin email aint worth your whole machine... DD

Mozilla has a very nice e-mail client.
![]() Damn fine browser too. From what I know about Windows no IE and no Outlook makes your machine pretty safe. |

omg... and here come the four riders now!!!!! ![]() I hated the netscape communicator email thingy and never tried it again since the first time it fucked up my entire system.. eudora was way too clunky.. I tried a couple of others too.. but i still use outlook express, with everything turned off.. I actually like the way it integrates with the ie security settings. (dont stone me) edit* back on topic.. is it likely to wake dormant virusses or anything like that if we turn off the local firewall to use the flashcash gallery builder? I have 3 e-mail clients on my Mac.
Microsoft Entourage which is basically Outlook for the Mac minus it doesn't run attachments. It is actually a very nice e-mail, calender, to do, address book, exchange server client. It comes with Microsoft Office. Mozilla which I gave a try to the other day and while it is basically Netscape e-mail client it has been really improved. I've been using it because this is what Mozilla uses if you choose send web page from its file menu. I've only been using it to send web pages since I use another e-mail client. This is also what I use on my Win2K machine not that I use e-mail very much on it. I have no anti-virus software on that machine so I will not use Outlook on it. I actually use Mac OS X's built in e-mail client that is called Mail.app or just Mail. It is a bit limited in features with the exception that it has an excellent anti-spam filter built in. You put it in learning mode for about a week and then it learns what is spam, works really well. Eudora is still one of the best e-mail clients out there IMHO, but it is butt ass ugly looking, lol. |

Norton sucks big way and I was using the antivirus control panel only, it is not able to fix a drive for a long time... the good thing is that i got these from a paranoid guy who has OS X and is worried about viruses all the way long. On the other hand he is a pretty good businessman and I did not want to hurt his feelings. ![]() |

I use Outlook Express (I'm too lazy to try to find a better one) but I don't let it open posts automatically, it's in 2 clicks mode. No viruses yet.
I also prompt all Active X things. It takes more clicks while surfing, but I haven't had any parasites after I started that.

Just for the record...I got rid of outlook a long time ago. I use Eudora and never open attachments unless I know what they are in advance. And, I would never run without a firewall and virus protection. For the few days I did...I received over 23 viruses.
Opti...just for the hell of it, go to norton and use their free tool to look for viruses. I would be willing to bet you have over 50 running right now. |
