So you host your sites on a windows server, and don't use PHP or Perl?

Personally, I have found both phpbb and vbulletin to have strengths and weaknesses. Until you get to a certain size, phpbb is usually more than adequate -- and easy to start with. In January, both had numerous security issues that needed to be addressed.

And while VBulletin is a for-pay product, you do get access to the source code which makes it somewhat open.

Internet Explorer is closed source code -- I don't think open source versus closed source makes much difference in terms of security issues. Or the TMobile hack -- that was SQL Injection, plain and simple and to my knowlede, TMobile hasn't released the code they use for their portal.

Keep up with the security updates on whatever you install, but, any of the above ones you listed should be ok. I think if you run Yabb, you'll want to have mod_perl support on your server to make it run more quickly.
