I think Microsoft are patching up their act and I think it's high time someone nailed the suckers who distribute malicious code.

But why do the press always call them hackers? Someone who creates viruses is not a hacker.

Interesting article. What I found most interesting was the last paragraph, that MS has acquired a virus protection company and plans to bundle that protection in their new platform.

The question I've been asking myself for the last few years is: "Why can't they just write tighter code and eliminate the need for virus protection?" |noclue|

As long as Outlook can execute any code it receives I don't see things changing.

I think it's also about market share. If you are gonna take the time to find exploits in a system, the best system to study is the one which is most widely used.

So if Windows is an Apple OS clone, then why is it almost impossible to break into an Apple?

Windows is not a Mac Clone other then the fact that they made it look something like a Mac.

You can write malicious code for any OS, but some OSs don't leave huge gapping holes all over the place.

It's like locking up your house. It still is possible to break in, but the harder you make it the less likely you are to get robbed.

75% of the web servers on the web run *nix, but you don't see tons of viruses being a problem for *nix so saying the Windows has a problem being due to the fact that it is popular is bullshit.

Don't use Outlook or IE and you will have very little problems with viruses under Windows.

Jump in your way back machine Urb and travel back in time to when Syntax Error was what you got when you typed anything on a monochrome screen. The term hackers is a generic term that was originally used to describe some poor soul who spent countless hours hacking away on the keyboards writing code and programming, well programs. The rise of the net had morphed it into meaning something totally different, it has a bad conotation to it now that is unwarranted.I know a LOT of people who could be described as hackers who follow the law of karma. But now hackers seems to mean some 15 year old mal content who spends their time copying code and changing it enough to be considered a brand new Virus

they call them hackers because they don't know any better or because it will scare the basic reader since hackers are asscosiated with computers goddom

If someone wanted to propogate a piece of code to as many computers as possible in a short space of time, Windows would be the obvious choice.

I was just balancing what I was saying, because whenever I post about MS's loose code on here, I get jumped upon.

spazlabz, it's like when someone tells you that they've found a cool way of modifying a link list script..... they refer to it as a hack for links2 for example. Which does not mean they've got a means of attack. It just means it's an added feature or modification of how the script presents results..... or something like that.

Geez - I didnt get into my wayback machine cause I remember very well when the term hacker meant something else - and very little to do with computers other that the fact that the guys that adopted the term were geeks working in the comp lab up at MIT. Back then it was breaking into locks, getting past security and playing pranks which never harmed anyone - and the friggin net was even around back then - just didnt have any public attention thank goodness - just something we used at school for projects when the military would let us on and our connections would work

I am paranoid about this kinda stuff, which is the only reason I've read up on it. One of the books actually has a CD in the back which says "This CD can be hazardous to your computer's health." How defensive is that?

There is another web site which begins with an A (which I would never post here) who do not agree with those books or their author and claim they are a pile of rubbish, yet the same group of people have been openly challenged to attack the domain you posted.
