Copyrights regarding celebrity pics?

I presume if you're active here you're probably pretty cautious on the legal stuff.

My presumption is that sites like this:

http://www.skins.be/top_celebs.php

...violate a bunch of copyrights.

But there are a lot of these sort of domains/sites around...not hard to find.

What is the scoop on snagging images like the site above and creating wall paper with your domain on it? I would presume this was outright stealing, but perhaps if one credits the source (?) it's OK or basically just overlooked?

TIA

If you dont have a piece of paper with a licence it's illegal/stealing plain and simple.

DD,

OK. Thanks. It's rather high profile stealing.

Is there a reason it seems desktop/wallpaper sites with celebs and super models are not gone after?

Particularly, FMH, Maxim, Stuff, etc...there pics are used all the time with their logo's removed.

Guess it's like playing 'wack-a-mole' with htose sites, eh?

It's not quite that simple. As with news shows that do movie reviews...no license is required. There is a short amount of time a movie clip can be shown when a review is included. The only legal celeb site I know of, and I could easily be wrong is MrSkin.

I have written to Hank at MrSkin and we may be getting some legal celeb content for you guys to use. There will be some hoops to jump through but at least you will be safe.

Jim,

That's interesting.

If you're really in Mohawk- we're almost neighbors. I'm in Nassau County Long Island.

While I "have you here" just wanted to thank you for having this site. Truly.

I just spent literally 5 hours solid reading- following links to articles, etc...and have a much better frame of reference to start to implement things.

I will be a free site for sure for to start out. It'll let me test, tweak, get opinions and feel stuff out while hopefully making a few bucks.

Quickie question that hasn't been answered in the Newbie Forum-
Is a site owner responsible or liable for an Affiliate's 18 U.S.C. Û2257 compliance?

Meaning, let's say one day a teen site somehow gets into a legal tangle and some girl was under age. Would all the related Affilates get into trouble for feeding traffic to that site and getting income from that site?

If someone states they are compliant with U2257 does that mean people who fed them users are in the clear?

TIA

That is a good question...I have the paperwork for over a million pictures myself so have never had to worry about using others. We have to get a lawyer in here...let me see who I can find.

I do often think of having a webmaster party at my house. A kind of Jimstock if you will...bands, beer and camping I own a lot of land but there are not a lot of hotels around me.

And since there really are a lot of webmasters that live within 4 hours of me, it would make sence.

My sons have had many parties here and nobody seems to mind the huge fire and sleeping in tents Nothing quite like a wood pallet fire with the occasional tire thrown on No, the tire part is always a threat I make to my wife But we do get some big hot "burning man" type fires going.

Maybe next summer we will do something for a few days where everyone will be welcome. Now if we could only put Greenies new bar on wheels, we would be all set.

Speaking of Greenies bar...I kicked ass on his bowling game. I took all the high scores that the good Dr Bizarro worked so hard to get

Sounds cool, Jim. Not sure if I will be here though as I plan to move to Thailand. That's where my fiancee' is. Spent the month of September there.

This is a big reason why I'm trying to get my own revenue generating websites up. Adult and non adult.

One can live exceptionally well there- for even $1k/mo. The apartment we have now is $65/mo inlcuding utilities.

An average house in a gated community can be rented for appx $125/mo.

I can buy a new house (well built) for $20k. This is in Northern Thaiand- ChiangMai. For $60k well- you can live large:

My buddy who makes a good chunk of change in large part thanks to the website I made for him and the SEO I did for him has just gone though the looking for a house deal here on Long Island.

Bottom line is he'll need to move to Suffolk and even then drop $394k for a decent place. Condo. What is messed up is that he can be mobile. He loves DisneyWorld and goes there 3x/year.

He can buy a house outright in cash there. But his partner has a locked in City job and doesn't want to give that up.

Over the next 20 years or so, he'll end up spending 100's of thousands more just to stay with the guy between taxes and general living costs between NY and Florida.

Actually, I think i will tease him again with my house pics in Thailand. It makes Florida look expensive. LOL!!!!

Greenie alreay told me that he wiped out the scores "replacing some microchip" in the game. (Yeah right)

I shall just have to prove my mastery of the bowling game next time I am there.
