What difference would it make?

If surfers doesn't get porn from my site that day, they will go elsewhere. They might read 2 lines of what I have to say regarding 2257 then get bored since they already have the dick in their hand and the wife will be home in 28 minutes and he need to bust a nut before that.

2257 is important to us, but there's not one surfer who cares about it.

What difference would it make? Wel I'm sure your right. Surfers would go get porn from other sites. But from what I have seen most of the sites are owned by people who come here. Or at least they are so interconneted it would handle handle the last part of your statement. Surfers would care after they seen that 99% of the sites they went to that day would be having the same message. And thats the point getting the message out. I have not been in this business long enough to say if this whole thing will even impact anyone here. I hear these nightmares come around every so often to only put people in the adult business in an up roar. But that was then and this is now. New government, one that has been quoted as being a stong and firm believer in not seperating church and state. One that tries very hard to just push their own personnal belief system threw as laws. Slowly but surly placing a larger gap between the haves and have nots. Point is here, the biggest problem I have seen in the adult industry is they don't want to orginize on issues like this. They sit back and complain and expect the larger compaines like Flints and Playboy and Penthouse to do all the fighting for them in court. But those guys can't win forever, and those guys are not in it to win for you or me. Now the public surly wont care either way if there is or is not porn on the net for 1 day. They will get it elsewhere like you said. But the news will care. There are crazy programs here at night that are just ex laywers and government officials who rant about whats going on in this country. Ones call "hard ball" and fact is they will talk about a whole internet porn shut down. But they will talk about why. They will examine the 2257 and rip is to shreds. Some will agree with it and some wont. But just having it on their programs is enough to get the government attention. And it's unconstiutional would place light on it that no judge would ever want to cross. When the public hears about something or the government thinks they know about something they are afriad to change it. Fact is they go voted in office with the law the way it stood they will not risk changing it during their political reign. Thats all this would do is get the word out.
I don't know about some people but I was never rasied to sit back and do nothing. I can't do it. What would one day hurt? Money? Sure but fact is if no one gets behind doing something with the current government there may be no more money from adult afterwards. Well im sure there will be but not in the little guys pocket. Anyway thats my feelings on this, You all can do what you want. Im putting up a page on the 15th.

I don't think that closing down our sites for a day will make them less talkers or start an anti 2257 surfer movement

I liked the idea too.

I also doubt it would be real effective, but I think it might accomplish something.

And what the fuck, it's only one days income, it's not like it would cost me anything I can't easily afford to lose.

But, it's a little early yet, the right time for this would be in the fall.

I like the idea, but I instantly thought of a quote that grandmascrotum posted on the boards:

"I've heard it said that trying to organise adult webmasters is like herding cats."

It would be a great idea if we could get a little unity and move as a group in certain directions. Someone mentioned a webmaster guild, well, a Webmaster Union would probably work. Small membership fees, all webmasters pay into it, and collectively you have one voice that can argue things like 2257. We get our own lawyers, etc, etc.

Honestly, it would be hard to organize, but I think you would be amazed how easy it would be to get people to join and pay a reasonable yearly due. TGP's, LinkLists, etc, the two of the main arteries for traffic in the adult industry makes a small mandatory rule...have to be in the union to submit.

Also, with this Union you could plan actions like strikes, 404'ing, etc.
