Right on Linkster!! I forgot about that picture too.. but really we were treated nightly to kind grandfatherly Walter Cronkite telling us.. 237 casualities today and 572 wounded in action.
I heard the other day Senator McCain saying that the news shouldn't give the number of people who died or what action was taken in Iraq because we the public doesn't need to see it. you'd think McCain of all people would want the TRUTH known. |

I think we NEED to know how many people died both American and Iraq, how many people have been injured and how many homes have been destroyed. The country is pulling together to help Katrnia victims that have lost thier homes but does any here care about the Iraqi's that have lost everything becasue of this war? Do Americans even know? |

NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.

I would say that a statement like that from McCain would be very uncharateristic - he is outspoken when it comes to showing the dead soldiers - he was the one that wrote to Sinclair group during the presidential elections to lambast them for not airing "Fallen" on some of their affiliates where Niteline was showing pictures of dead soldiers and reading their names. McCain also supported showing the caskets in Dover back in 2004 when it was voted on in congress http://www.camerairaq.com/2004/05/caskets_photogr.html is the only link I could find where he actually spoke about it during the congressional debate. Of course his republican congress passed the bill making it law not to show the caskets in support of the prez.
He is one of the only republicans I respect as he has always supported the soldiers and keeps challenging the way we are reporting the war dead and injured (which btw is way under-reported based on the number of purple hearts given out for non-combat injuries - tens of thousands of soldiers are sitting in Vet hospitals back here in the US and their story isnt being told) |

I know it was in a segment where he was commenting on the release of the photos from the Abu Ghraib debacle. |
