I use videos a lot, I can't remember ever being turned down.
I just put the site in the niche, I only submit to the movie cat if it doesnt fit any thing else. I am not sure about conversions... I would like to warn you only do it if you have extra transfer with your host. mpegs are 2.7% of my hits, but they are 66.6% of my transfer...

I've been doing mostly movies and movie/pic combo sites the past few months. They do seem to convert better, but I haven't collected any hard data to support that.
I submit to the appropriate category if possible because I think that gives more targeted traffic than a catch-all movie cat.
