Tigermom - I looked into that for a webgirl friend running on BlogDrive, trying to get her to move to wordpress installed on her site domain... BlogDrive lets you make backups of the whole db, but it's in some whack proprietary format. In theory if you could get the data to export into a workable format, it *should* be possible to do a little modifications to that format for import into something else (matching up the database tablenames, fields, etc.) but it'd be a pain in the ass. If it's a blog that hasn't been up for too awful long, copy/paste each entry might be faster.

Maybe some WP / PHP guru should write a converter plugin to be able to import and convert some of the more popular freebloghost backup formats. I'm not keen enough for that project though!

Every blog has its rss or atom feeds. So with a simple php parser, it only takes minutes to get the data loaded on you server.

Hell even I might be able to accomplish something like that! haha (and i'm using wordpress only as an example because it's what I use and recommend). I'm thinking some simple framework that pulls the RSS entries into an array, and then INSERT into wordpress db where $arrayitemX = matching_wordpress_field ?? (as a most basic concept)

I'm no php/mysql/rss "guru" by any standard; know enough to be dangerous... I'll doublecheck the codex again too, but i'm positive I didn't see any plugins like this out there yet. Plenty of aggregators, yeah (but simply display an external feed, not actually import it into WP).

Of course I may be way off base lol I'll fucker around with it sometime, as if I don't have enough on my plate already! (and profound apologies for straying way the hell off topic...)
