I've always thought it best to stay away from large blocks of text.

Just use paragraphs. Nothing worse then trying to decide if something is worth reading and it is just one giant block of text.

Yup, if I see a large block of text without any paragraph breaks I just back off the page and move on.

Interesting....raises some good points though with a blog I think you have to rant a bit in order to give it some kind of personality. The trick is to get your point across without letting off too much steam. OOps Im rambling agian !! lol
