I've tried that and it opens the initial folder in column view, but then if I click on a folder within that folder, it opens it in icon view

Don't mind my dumb ass haha. Since you wrote what I had tried, I realized that I was doing something wrong. Every time I started a finder window, I clicked on "Macintosh HD" on the desktop and not the Finder icon in the dock. Now when I clicked the right one in the Dock, it opened everything in Column view
