Are Youtube/Pornotube bad news?

I've been thinking about this since I initially found out that AEBN was behind pornotube. Like it or not, it's here. The surfer contribution end is a huge copyright infringement nightmare. I don't really like the idea for that reason. Ethically, I don't really like the idea for that reason. Using someone elses, often copyrighted, content to build huge traffic.

Trying to fight it via the courts would be like pouring sand in rat hole. I think NBC et. al. came to the same conclusion and decided to join them rather than fight. Put up a better quality of content yourself so there is no reason for surfers to upload their crap.

nope, it's a genuine question - it helps me a lot to understand the requirements of webmasters, otherwise I will be off coding neat apps, and not thinking about how people can use stuff.

I've really been picking up on some concerns from webmasters about seeing their content being "shared", so wanted to ask if that was just a few people's concerns, or is it more general?

Actually, there is something I am kind of considering as a neat solution to that entire issue, which is why I'm seeking some comments on the subject....maybe I'm being naiive, but do you think there's a way to capitalise on this trend? Just as when you can see a niche emerging, everyone piles in and creates reality and other services? So this way, webmasters could create a Youtube-like experience, and hook signups from a popular/familiar delivery style?

Admittedly, this doesn't face up to the erosion from UGC or file-sharing, but it repackages excellent sites and content in a fresh way, and perhaps stems the flow a little?

Of course, we should keep in mind the fact that some kids will always want to just cause a problem and bend the rules with sharing etc, but there is a body of buyers that will always want to buy great content that's packaged well, and delivered in a contemporary manner.

Yes, I have a webscript, no I'm not a spammer. I have a genuine interest in figuring how to work with a new standard that Youtube etc are putting down

That's exactly what they did. They had a skit on Saturday Night Live that was posted. It pissed them off until they saw that that video was viewed by more people than when it was on the show. So now, they do send high quality videos with a little branding and product placement.
