How do LL's make money?

Wow, you guys are great! I want to thank everybody for all of the replies... I asked about LL's because I'm in the process of developing a site full of my own links, but was at a loss as to how to attract surfers. Right now I'm relying pretty heavily on adwords, and have had some success on this front, but obviously, I'd rather not have to pay for traffic. I've looked at Penis Bot, Hoes, and couldn't figure out how they did it. Now I think I have a better understanding of their business model, so again, thanks.

Just out of curiousity, if I were to open up my list so that people could submit and list their "free sites", what kind of features would you be looking for? Since I haven't started writing the script surrounding this process (and have no intention of buying one) it would be cool to know what you guys are looking for (even features you haven't seen at other LL's).

Start by submitting freesites for a while. You'll learn quite a bit.

I have a "hub/fake link list" where I have a lot of my free sites and free sites hosted by sponsors (with my affiliate code in them) and I put a list of "free and $1 trials" on the main page and each catagory page. Last week I got two sales from that list that I added.
