Free Site Question

When you are on the gallery page of a free site, be it gallery one or gallery two, why do they (nearly) always expect the surfer to use the browser button to click back? Why are navigation links not used more, is it to do with the 3 outward links rule?? Surely search engine optimization would be better for everyone if whilst on lets say free site galllery one there was a link back to the main page and a link to gallery two?

Am I missing the point maybe that it is after visiting one of the galleries you do not want the surfer to go onto the next gallery but you want them to exit at your sponsors advert??

Some people do add a link back to the main page or to the other gallery on their free sites. They (the extra links) don't effect the outbound link max since they are not outbound links. They serve to help surfer get to all the content half a second faster and that's probably why most of us don't use them. (Let them look around the page a bit longer before they realize they must use the back button.) As far as SEO goes, I doubt it would have any noticeable impact.

Useless Warrior replied before I could post...but 'll post this anyway seeing as I've typed it.

I read somewhere a while back that the back button is one of the most widely used buttons of all. Your brain can get you to your back button with your eyes closed...almost.

The idea with the Gallery One thing is that you want the surfer to go from there back to your main page before hitting Gallery Two. Thus showing him those precious ads again before he/she looks at the second gallery. More exposure!

On the second gallery I usually put a small sponsor or hub link at the bottom of mine instead of a "Back To The Main Page" link, hoping that the eyes will drift there if they used that method on Gallery One to return to the main page.
Phew. Did that make sense?

Navigation issues could possibly get you rejected at some link lists, but I've yet to be rejected for doing it this way. At least I don't think I have.

Keeping things clear and trick-free for the surfer when it comes to navigation should mean less rejections. Just make it clear that each link tells them where they are going, there's absolutely no point in trying to deceive anyone. Obviously it's better to get accepted and give yourself a shot at a sale than be rejected and have no chance.

Thank you both.... Okay one last question before I hopefully release details of my first effort for constructive criticism... I read about not wasting any traffic... Most use the warning exit to Google.com or yahoo.com If I brought another domain name, kept it clean and called it for example MyExit.com and just had lots of Google adwords or something and used this as my exit page, would it count as one of the three advertisers?

But sometimes is better not to put link to second gallery or to main page becuase when surfer ends watching all pictures he will want more so it will be better to send him to sponsor not to the second or third gallery.

You must try to post fs with navigation button and without and check which is better.

I don't know of anyone who counts a mainstream exit as one of your allotted links. Should be fine. Though you may choose not to have an exit - you don't have to have one.

If you intend to make money off the exit link then some reviewers may count it as one of your 3 out. Personally, I don't care where your exit goes and I wouldn't count it against the 3 as long as it has nothing to do with adult (no dating ads, penis pills, gambling etc).

oh and I like KG Gary's idea on the navigation - give them a link back to the main page on the 1st gallery, then use that same space on the 2nd gallery for a link to a hub - habit is a wonderful thing
