The max was 5 years, but Federal guidelines for a first time offender is 12-18 months, so the judge did give him more time than the recommeded guidelines.
What that means is that there is no way he can even think about resuming his football career until the 2010 season. If the league then makes him serve another years suspension, which seems likely based on prior precedents and comments I've read, then make that the 2011 season. After three or four years out of the league his skills will most likely have diminished to the point where he'll be little more than a backup somewhere. And as far as any endorsement deals if/when he returns to football, there won't be many and they won't be big ones.
