I had earthlink dsl and switched to road runner cable. even though i do have problems time to time with road runner, i would never switch back to dsl. it was slower than the cable i have now. And i went through 3 different dsl modems in 2 years and was charged $120 for 2 of them. I think either way you go theres going to be a downside but cable has the speed overall.
