Massive traffic isn't essential, so long as the click thru and conversion ratios are adequate.

There are many variables to manage in regards to both, which involve things such as site design/layout, selection of gallery content, frequency of updates, selection of trade partners and the management of those trades.

The most valuable piece of advice I rec'd as a newbie was this following simple statement:
"Cutting your conversion ratio in half is the same as doubling your traffic."
