AdWords are for adding to sites that you create for fun and want to make a few extra bucks out of the site as well. They are great for that, for a "few extra bucks" and I have several clients on the non-adult side who are having fun and making a bit of pin money out of it. But if you want to make serious money, avoid them like the plague. If you are even halfway good at this business you should be able to make ten times as much without them as with them.

And avoid the mistake that several of my non-adult clients make. If you are making good money from affiliate sales don't add AdWords hoping to make a few extra bucks. AdWords will compete with your sponsors and instead of a surfer buying from a sponsor, and making you, say $20, some will buy from an AdWord advertiser, and you will just get a few cents for the click.

ecchi, you are talking about AdSense(running ads on your page), right?

Adwords(buying ad spots), can work, but you have to be very careful. Their volume can break your budget real quick.

Also they have been on this permanent AdWords "ban" with "no explanations" rampage lately. There is some feeling that they are clearing the way for their own affiliate network that they just bought. There are a lot of people filing FTC complaints over this.

Yahoo could be a better starting point. A little lighter on the budget, more transparent on the bidding, and you can actually get a real person to help you with your problems.

Sorry, posted late last night (UK time) and it would appear that my brain had already gone to sleep.

If you are thinking of buying spots to send directly to a sponsor, my experience is that this does not really work, I made a little when I tried it, but it was so little it was just not worth it. I have had clients mention doing this in the past and say that they actually ended out spending more on advertising than they made. However I did know one guy who said that he made a damn good living out of doing this (non-adult site), so I guess it depends on what sponsors you use and how good you are at it.

If you mean sending traffic to your own free sites, so that you can write proper ad copy and advertise several sponsors, I have had clients do this and make good money (again non-adult). From personal experience; a while back when I had my own paysites I tried it for my own sites and made reasonable money.

I also once tried using them for traffic to a TGP type site to fuel traffic exchanges. I found Choker more cost effective for this. (Although another traffic seller, who was cheaper, was actually less cost effective, not as good quality traffic).
