Question Google Backward Links - order of listing

When Google presents the backward links for a site, in which order are they listed?

eman a long time ago in a far away place - they used to be done in order of importance - now it seems they are just thrown together in the order they are found or some random mix to throw off any SEO attempts by people - but who knows - Google may have some magical elixer that says that a PR3 4 page free site is more important than a LL thats been around since 1996

Linkster - thanks for your reply

My curiosity was aroused when, for comparitive purposes, I recently checked the backward links for the sites in my index page PR Table. What I found surprised me.

Ignoring the link to a one-page site of my own, there are 15 sites in the table, mostly PR5, with one PR4 and a PR6. Their backward links total anything from 15 to 404, and in every case my site (PR5, 130 backward links) appears at the top of the list.

I've read elsewhere that the listing is generally considered to be random - but not always, it would appear.

The top place for my site is held by a PR4 category page (pornstars) on a PR5 site.

Having said that, I can't pretend to know what it all means

Hi Guys,

One theory I've come across: You take the pr of the page (which we all know that a pr=4 could actually have a value such as 40,000 to 49,999 or something such assigned to it) and divide it by the number of outgoing links. This determines the actual page rank that the page sends to the pages it links to (not taking into account the positioning of the link of the sending page).

Hence the page rank sent also determines the position/rank that you see when looking at backlinks.

That sounds entirely feasible to me

It stands to reason that you can only transfer what you've got, and the more you limit the number of recipients, the greater the benefit passed on.

But then, what do I know

I know that this is gonna sound like a shameless plug for my site (and believe me I'm not above shameless plugs) but it's not in this instance, but that is how I tested this theory.

My site: http://100-free-porn-movies-sex-videos-and-pics.com/ is a link list, and it put's new sites up top, then moves them down into alphabetical order after a certain time period. If you look at some of the sites that are not new that are listed, that have page rank, my site usually is the top backlink.

I'm pretty sure this is because my cat pages all have pr's of 5, but not that many links out compared to other lists with hundreds or even thousands of outgoing links.

My theory, someone submits a site to me and a handful of other link sites, Google crawls them and then gives them page rank. When you check the backlinks, usually my link site is the one at the top (if the others show up at all) because I don't have nearly as many outgoing links.

Please understand that this is not to say that the other sites that they're linked on don't help, but I do believe that Google has a cut off where if site A doesn't send a certain amount of pr to site B, then site A will not show up in the backlinks.

This is all theoretical, of course. To my knowledge, no one has done exhaustive tests to determine if this is accurate or not.
