Hiya!
 mySQL, CGI/Perl, PHP and the like are not scripts per se - they are programming languages, with the exception of mySQL which is a database engine. If you are merely building freesites/galleries then the benefit of using technology like this is going to be rather limited. One or two steps up the ladder though and you will DEFINITELY want to start plugging in applications using them.
