There is a theory about getting a surfer used to clicking something and he'll be more likely to click one of your ads. And there is some truth in that.

However, each time he clicks one of your thumbs he's being rewarded in a particular way. But when he clicks on your ads, unless they're linked to your own well-designed landing pages, what he'll get is the sponsor's tour page. And unless that page offers him a suitable reward, he's likely to back out or just close the browser window.

That's part of why I mentioned that you need more persuasive ad copy in your gallery. You have to set their frame of mind as best you can before you hand them off to the sponsor tour.

In my ideal gallery, the surfer sees thumbs large enough that he'll only click one if he really wants to see more detail, and actually he's more likely to click on a link to a sponsor than a thumb since the text on the page is encouraging that action in both subtle and direct ways.

Otherwise you're just feeding free content to surfers as fast as you can, like probably 90%* of all gallery and free site** builders do.

** I mean free site in the non-capitalized way, referring to all non-paysites which are built to generate paysite signups.
