I was joking, but wouldn't that work? Yes, it'd stretch the thumbs, but you're not gonna see a major loss in quality increasing them by just 15 & 20 pixels on each side.

I'd try this 1st. Then go thru the pages & see if you find any really bad ones & redo just those thumbs - probably save a lot of time
