I'm back on track after a pretty hectic weekend, got 5 days of reviews to catch up..

I ordered a cable modem yesterday that is being installed on Friday. I have ADSL now but I'm really sick of bellsouth.net's bullshit. Not only am I paying way too much for ADSL, 95 bucks per month, but after I took advantage of their double your speed for 10 bucks a month now they are trying to FAX me the agreement 24 hours a day and I don't have a FAX machine. Nothing like the great joy of being woken up ever few hours by a FAX trying to be sent to your voice line. Anyway the cable modem is 3 megs download and 256k upload plus basic cable for when a storm knocks out my satellite all for $25 less per month then what I'm paying for ADSL. Plus I get like $50 off my bill for the first 3 months. Also not being on a static IP should help in catching the cheaters.

It's kinda crappy looking outside today here as well, but I have hope, as it looked this way ysterday morning & it turned out to be an awesome day!

I got caught up on my HBO shows last night due to watching Survivor on Sunday, I watched a little hockey last night as well.

Anyone want to be on the radio show today?

We pay 35 euros for ADSL. $95 per month is robbing.

It's 24 evening today. Our biggest free TV channel has 2 channels, and first one shows the episode the second one showed last week, so it's easy to remember what has happened so far. At 9pm you watch the last week's episode and at 10pm the new one.

The phone company charges me this much since the line at my house is a business line. I only have one line at my house, down from the six I had at one time. Once my ADSL is off this line I may move the number to my cell phone and just put in a basic private land line at my house which will save me close to 100 buck each month. I'm really sick of the phone company charging me close to 200 bucks each month for a phone line and ADSL because they say I'm doing business on it. The truth is that all my business these days is done using my cell phone and even when I'm home I often use my cell phone.

It isn't even so much the money as it is I feel like I'm getting fucked up the poop shoot without a condom each moth when I send the phone company almost 200 bucks for a basic phone line and basic ADSL service.

Actually about the only reason I even have a land line anymore is my house alarm needs it and for internet access, but soon I will not need it for internet access anymore.

Once I switched over to a cable modem if I don't like it I can get earthlink.net ADSL service for $45 per month. I just can't switched to another ADSL service while having bellsouth ADSL service without losing my ADSL service for up to two weeks.

We still have old time home phone line althought we don't need it for ADSL here in Finland. We have been talking about stopping it, but it seems my wife still like to have it. Almost no one phoned to it, as I have my own GSM phone and wife have her own. Sometimes some unlucky tele marketer calls (I like to do dirty tricks to tele marketers).

Phone companies used to be a PITA here too, but after GSM we had so many new operators who sell lines almost for free they had to change their business models. I don't pay any monthly cost for my GSM line, only 7 cents per call (in Finland). I remember the time when it was 50 cents per minute or more. That was the time when phones were NMT and they cost almost $2000. My GSM was something like $100 when I bought it, lol! Nokia, of course.

I use private ADSL line. My wife's dayjob bought her that line, but as my company use it, I pay the monthly bill. That was OK to everyone. 35 euros per month is not much for 24/7 line to net, and the operator already gave us users more speed. They had to, as new operators sell more speed cheaper.

My latest cell phone, Sony Ericcson T610 using T-Mobile service, is GSM. GSM is actually pretty new here, US cell service sucks compared to other places in the world from what I read.

Yeah every time I go looking for my big cordless land line I wonder why seeing as my cell phone which is the size of a set of keys is already in my pant's pocket and has a cordless ear piece that is probably already on my ear.

I just have one question where the fuck is our flying cars that we were promised? We have computers in door knobs and Star Trek communicators which no one promised us, but no flying cars.

Cleo, we use bellsouth.net adsl too although I'm down to two lines now, down from 4 a few years ago before DSL. I was wondering.. can you really tell a difference with the double speed thing? If it's worth it I'll go ahead with it but I've been skeptical about how it can really double the speed.

At my house I wouldn't know becauseÉ The woman asked if I had a FAX machine so that she could FAX me the agreement. I told her that I have not had a FAX machine here since the last century instead could she PDF it and e-mail me it. She said no problem. For about a week now I've been getting non stop FAX calls from bellsouth to my voice line and never got an e-mail with the agreement so I'm still at the old speed which seems to be about a little over 1 meg download on a good day..

On the other hand Comcast is installing a cable modem for 9.95 and giving me the first few months for 29.95 which includes basic cable. They are coming this Friday. I have no use for cable since I'm a Dish user and very happy with it, but it will be nice to have a backup since the Dish does go out if it is raining really hard until the storm passes.

When I was in chicago I had $35 per month DSL with sbc so I thought the USA was ok with internet, $95 is rubbish, almost as shit as we are here in australia, at least they don't charge you for download limits there. We got some shit heads trying to sign people up with 200mb download limit here, on ADSL, fucking bullshit.

Earthlink.net is $50 per month with taxes and is decent ADSL. No setup costs and they mail you the modem for free along with some line filters. It's 1.5 download and 125k upload. I know lots of people that are happy with their service.

The Comcast service that I'm getting has a useful thing for me. They give you a smtp server that you can use anywhere so no more trying to figure out what the smtp settings are when I'm using a hotspot or at a friendÕs place. I don't think it comes with a dialup account, not sure, but I don't care as I've never even used the modem in my laptop. My laptop uses Bluetooth with my cell phone to give me internet access at dialup speeds anyplace that I have cell service. I can even get phone calls while connected. I find myself using this pretty often.

There is also some cheaper places to get ADSL but from what I hear they pretty much all suck.

Those GSM phones are real small. I was going to buy that Nokia they call Zippo, but it was so small my big bear claws cannot use the keys anymore, and as my sight is not 20/20 anymore, I cannot see the text, so I bought Nokia 3310. I don't need a phone much anyway, and it was the biggest of the small ones I found. It's still so small that I must dug it from my pockets if someone calls, but keys are reasonably big and I can read the text.

Growing old is PITA.

Next I buy one of those "musell scallop" phones, they have bigger monitors (except Nokia I have heard, but they have lots of new models soon, so maybe they repair that).

GSM is cool. My wife can go to net wireless with her Nokia, using infra red. Of course that is not so cheap, but if you must have a line and you're somewhere with laptop, that's cool. Now one of our biggest operators offer a card which can put on net without wires anywhere in Finland. I don't know how you use that card yet, as I don't need a one, but it sounds cool too.
