While I don't know how particular sponsors count, I can tell you that while SE traffic is usually high quality, it is also prone to backing up when they hit a paysite (especially if you are sending them right to the first page of the tour rather than some other filter first). If they are counting 2nd page (or even join page) hits, then you might be seeing issues with your SE traffic.

My personal suggestion is to route your SE traffic to a landing page that has a few different sponsors with the target on it. Open the sponsor sites in new windows when they get clicked, and you may want to even have an exit console on the page if it gets closed or they back up, perhaps flogging them to a related TGP or other site that you own.

Anyway, the check is the most important stat... traffic is best measures in your mailbox.
