I like getting up early in the morning. This morning around 5:30 I went outside to take a leak and enjoy the sunrise.
Bait fish were boiling about 15 feet off my port bow, the step kids had been over for fourth of July and a pole with a plastic lure was left out on my cabin roof so I thought what the hell.
First cast BAM zzzzzzzzzzzzz I'm hooked up and it's big and peeling line like nothing I've ever caught in the bay.
After 15 minutes or so finale get a look at the fish it's a 3 foot plus halibut. I'm stomping on the deck trying to wake my wife up screaming trying to wake my neighbor up because I know there's no way I'm going to get a 50lb? fish up on 12lb line so I need a gaff.
Lasted another 5 minutes or so until he chewed through the line. I like computers and my girls butt damn I had forgotten I love fishing.

I always like reading your stories, Pat. It sounds like you've got it made out there on your boat. If I were you I'd spend the weekend fishing or maybe just do a bit of night fishing tonight.

Damn, so close yet so far. Those 12lb lines are awesome!

When I was about 10 we was on vacation in Northern Minnesota and my dad caught a huge northern pike on a 12lb line, we found out later had he registered it, it would have been a new state record by 1/4 lb. My parents have since moved to that area and right on that very river.

Toni and I love to go fishing, it's been 2 years since we have had time to go, but now that we are in FL we want to go deep sea fishing and next time we go to Alaska we want to do some fishing there as well.

I live in a commercial marina most of my neighbors are commercial fishermen. I told a few of them about my fishing yesterday and all three said "it was how big"|noclue|

Thanx for the complement I actually enjoy the posts in the chit chat section from Finnbear Fonz and You because you guys give a peek into life in different Country's and Jim, his posts make me appreciate where I live because he's all ways just had a storm, having a storm or going to have a storm, He posted it was sunny today that must mean a storm is coming.

I lived in Florida for a few years, never lived more than 10 blocks from the Indian River.
Did a lot of snook fishing off the banks and bridges. Fun fish to catch, and it was hassle free fishing you just needed a cast net, bucket, pole and six pack, no boat to clean up afterwards.

I started fishing when I was about 5 years old, until I was 15 I went fishing almost every week.. but then Igot in touch with bars, girls, alcohol and more of that adult crap
So since then I haven't fished all that much anymore. I still have all my stuff but it's covered with dust and the lines are all rotten by now.. hmm.. those were the days

My grandad took me fishing a lot when i was a kid. I had one of those childhoods where my dad was always too busy, and my grandad was my best buddy. We'd go freshwater fly fishing and I remember some great summers spent on his boat on the norfolk broads.

About the "strangest" place I ever fished was Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. This was totally sureal. In Nigeria if something breaks, they don't fix it, they just leave it! So as you travel out of the harbour, you've got the rotting hulks of several ocean liners, literally left to rust. I'd take the little boat I had and just park up next to one of these boats and I used to snag my fair share of red snapper.

Also in Nigeria, I used to watch the nigerians use these huge nets. I've never been a good fisherman and, as a teen, I remember feeling a bit jealous at how successful they seemed with these nets. Well, my driver Michael took me to a little village. We got out and I was the only white face. About 200 little kids were surrounding me, touching my clothese, the women wanted to touch my straight nose. Anyway, I was told I would be safe because they considered redheads to be magical (I am also an only child but they couldnt have not this, or they would have been truly terrified LOL). Anyway, I had this net made. It was circular with lead weights around the edge. Next day we took it out and, fuck me, I dont know the names of all the fish but we cleaned up! Me and mike gave the catch to his family.

That's cool, i never knew what it was called. It's great to think they're used in other parts of the world. I often think of that net when I see lakes and rivers over here. I'd love to wade past a couple of english flyfishermen, nice quiet summer afternoon at the lake, and let rip with a big fucking net!
