Well, US lawmakers do get confused about that.

Reminds me of a story - there was a "cult status" cartoon in the US many years ago called "Ren and Stimpy," about a hyperactive rat/mouse and his large, stupid cat companion, who lived in a big house in the suburbs, of course.

The cartoon creator, John Krisfaluci, went on a tour of US college campuses promoting the series. Everywhere he went, some presumably intelligent college kid would get up and ask "Are Ren and Stimpy gay?"

Each time, Krisfaluci would patiently explain, "no, they are not gay. They are ink on cels."

Some folks really don't grasp the simplest of facts.
