Well, I'll just give you my opinion about it.
The floating banner thingy may well increase your sales-per-vistor, and if it does, the increase in profit is probably worth the extra space it takes up at the top of the page. (You need to test this- it might just irritate your visitors) The menu thingy arguably neither increases your profitability or even the overall usability of the page, but it definitely takes up a big chunk of the top of the page and pushes relevant text further down the page. Overall, I think it produces a loss for you. A link list category page is a hybrid animal- it's not a pure search engine page, where you want relevant text concentrated at the top of the page, and your primary goal is to position well and attract qualified clicks. A link list page needs to be navigable and friendly to the general flow of surfers thru the list, and it also needs to be able to direct the surfer to his favorite niche if he lands on it by "just exploring". I think the javascript floating menu is a distraction from that- simple buttons or text links at both the top and bottom of your page probably does the job better. |
