I agree with UW's quotation from Mr Wiki Pedia and what Dollpix has written as well, but I did not always see it that way.

It was when 2257 reared its ugly head a few years back that I changed. Masturbation with or without toys is considered explicit. Because of that I now view it as hardcore, or at least non softcore. Please speak to your own lawyer in regards to 2257.

Unfortunately if your building and submitting that becomes a different issue, especially if that LL or ??? does not have a masturbation/sex toy category. Most owners that have taken submissions for years (Tommy, Cleo, Fonz) see it as softcore, which is understandable.

I also think solo/masturbation is still softcore, though on the edge.

I think we need a more flexible categorization here. Smth like

soft softcore (nude girls showing off their bodies)
hard softcore (toys, masturbation)
soft hardcore (something artsy like vintage porn black and white porn pics...)
hardcore

I'm grateful for everyone who responded. I think where it's tough is that there appears to be a pretty big division between American and European.

All I know is that sites like Met-Art call themselves soft and also state that they have an attorney review everything to make sure they don't require the 2257. So by that, the definition of 'soft' wold be anything that doesn't need 2257.

Please don't hate me but I'd like to take this question a bit further- does anyone think it's inappropriate to only have soft on your main site but submit hardcore freesites? I'm not saying I'm considering doing this but I am considering limiting my main site to just soft and I'm wondering if this then very much limits my freesites? Or what about limiting what you show on your main site but linking to hardcore sponsors and LL's? Not blind links but links nonetheless-

I've been kind of stuck the past couple of weeks contemplating this-

I don't see why it would matter either way. If the sole purpose of your free sites is to promote whatever it is that you are referring to as your main site, then it would indeed be incongruous. Otherwise, I don't see an issue.

I think many feel that softcore, is solo models without any penetration of any kind including toys. I myself use the word for non-nude models, single girl models nude, girl on girl kissing and masturbation by hand/finger. Thats just me.

I'm also noticing that softcore can sometimes mean young and it's sort of bumming me out... I don't want to switch to softcore and then have a bunch of way too young looking teens- yikes-
