Ok, so how many uniques do you think is 'quite well'?
For me, a TGP gallery does 'good' at 50k uniques and 'great' at 100k uniques.
Do you know your CTR (Click-Through-Ratio)? In other words, what % of uniques from your gallery click through to your sponsor(s)?

HowlingWulf, good for me right now is anything +0. My site got 36K hits (not uniques) last week and I was okay with that but not deluded into thinking that was any kind of significant traffic. Any traffic for me right now is bonus. There's no reason for anyone to know who I am. Tigermom mentioned earlier in the thread that the 'quality' of the traffic generated from submitted pages was questionable and I can understand that, so I was just pleased that anyone came back at all and even more surprised that at least 100 of them landed on one of my sponsor's pages. So, I just have about 100,000 more to go before I get a sale...lol....

Yeah, free sites are viable but their base is quickly being eroded in favor of tube and torrent sites not to mention the porn BBS's that look just like this forum but every post contains more free porn then you will find in 100 free sites and at no charge too!

It isn't that the advertising isn't there, it's there alright just in a different form, sometimes much more bold and in your face and sometime subtle like the page peel add or the IM pop-up. The point is it's dynamic and adaptable and the level of participation between surfer, webmaster and affiliate has changed tremendously.

Looking at the rules to get your static, don't you dare change it, free site listed on a link list is like looking at granny's old school book. It's amusing and way out of touch. How quaint.

After a fairly poor night's sleep (dog woke me up to go outside even though there's a doggy door, PSU fan started making noise, etc.), I've reread this thread and I'm not entirely certain what the hell the real argument is about. Ok, ned, you feel that free sites and the rules governing their composition are antiquated and they fail to adequately compete against tubes, torrents and porn forums. Is ned really so passionately opposed to free sites that he was willing to take a good-hearted effort to help a newbie and transform it into this mess? Perhaps, but I'm sure many of us could find some points of agreement on the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of the modern free site, but with the understanding that free sites, galleries, blogs or any other method of SELLING porn isn't meant to compete against those who ignore copyrights, content licenses, sponsor TOS and common sense. Thus far, the argument against this model is analogous to saying a pharmacy should be shut down because it'll never going compete with the crack dealer on the corner.

I suppose what I'm saying, ned, is that you should step up and bring something to the table. We get it - you don't think Kisa should build and submit free sites because she won't be able to compete with stolen porn. Fine, what then? What is poor, innocent Kisa to do? ned? You there buddy? Illuminate us all. The naive children of GG&Jim are eagerly awaiting omnipotent illumination.

While I appreciate your reply, I did not think the argument was based on how to compete against the plethora of free and stolen porn.

I took exception to a statement made by starman:

Hindsight being 20/20 I should not have said this was bullshit, so let me rephrase it to "I strongly disagree with the above statement."

It's misleading on it's own, it's misleading in the context of the original post and it's misleading in the context of a newbie board.
It's just hype, (I'm being polite here), totally unrelated to the real world of selling porn.

If you are a webmaster just starting off, reading a statement like that instantly gives you the wrong impression of the adult biz.
In fact it was a real hoot to read something so patently false like that in 2008.

To wrap it up, Kisa is free to build whatever she wants to build, I believe the most important thing is for Kisa to build her empire with her eyes wide open and not with a view that's been obfuscated by foolish talk.

Freesites are antiquated, thats true enough. Google decided that all for us. We were trying to do something we thought was responsible, putting a layer of protection between free porn and minors, but google decided that the minors aren't google's market interest.

For the record, I always liked Alex. He's a bright guy, especially for this industry, and was always a sweet guy to me and my wife.

Like Bill said, ned - whoever he is, isn't really wrong about free sites and certainly not about the menace we're up against. The problem with free sites, which I guess was part of ned's argument, is that they're so dumbed-down and, I suppose, limited, in order to make them easy to navigate for surfers and reviewers. Bill [that old timer ] knows a ton more about what free sites were in the past because he's been at this a lot longer than I have and spends a lot more time analyzing his game than most people do. The free sites of today are all I really know. They've always been a limited, very clean, 4 page package to me.

Frankly, I haven't built a submitted free site in a long, long time. But I know that you can make money doing that because I have a bunch of submitters who submit free sites almost daily. Either they're making money or they're all gluttons for punishment with too much free time.

Whether you're submitting free sites or galleries, blogging like a maniac, or working your own self-propelled traffic system, this business keeps getting tougher. Google can't make up its fucking mind -- and pirates, scumbags and some sponsors are handing out full length movies like they're penny candy during a parade. I swear, we're going to see a point when content will have almost zero value. It'll be freely distributed and the only programs left will be dating sponsors with fake geo profiles - and they won't need affiliates because they own the goddamn tube sites in the first place. I hope you don't know anyone who wants to be a pornstar because talent won't be paid fuck-all once all content is free to the consumer. Another year of this nonsense and WE will be the ones petitioning Congress to restrict pornography to anyone without a credit card and demanding that it all sits behind the secure walls of a members area.
