Wordpress 2.7.1 automatic update: nice!
I just noticed the little "new version" message..again??? damn, those WP coders sure are busy fuckers...
Good news, though, I used the automatic update option on one of my blogs, and it was quick and painless...no issues whatsoever. You have to enter your ftp info, but beyond that it's just a click and a maybe 5 minutes or wait. One less pain in the ass. |

Thanks for the info, I'm tempted to try that because 1 update I did fucked up everything.

just make sure you save your old theme because it will overwrite everything.

Yikes! I was going to go ahead and update but didn't know the new version would overwrite my themes! Thanks Bob.

I did all three of my blogs, no problems with overwriting the themes..of course backups are always recommended.

it overwrote one of mine.. but it was the default theme. i tend to just make my modifciations on the default. I should probably start making a copy instead and naming it something else instead.

I did it on all my blogs and all went well. For those interested, you can also do it with permissions set to 755 to avoid security issues.
If you like the default theme and edit it from there to suit your needs, I suggest that you really do make a copy of it and rename it because it definitely overwrite all default files. The custom theme used are not deleted neither are the plug-ins that are being used. You can leave them activated, the upgrade will go without issues either. |

I haven't used that feature - but I have been using this plugin for automatically updating WP.
It wallks you through the steps - makes a backup of everything and tells you of plugin compatibilities (I think from memory). It doesn't say I need to upgrade yet though - and I too see the new release message |

I keep a complete local copy of each WP install I have on my C: drive, so if I do this server upgrade then my local copy no longer matches my server copy. So I'll stick with just updating my local copies and re-publishing them to the servers.
